Over here only "strong protection" cannot be circumvented for this purpose.
DeCSS proved that CSS is not strong at all. A Pentium III could bruteforce it in 18 seconds. It was also impossible to contain the source code because it was so short, you could print it on a T-shirt or write it into a haiku.
Sharing stuff is still illegal, so if you rip a DVD and upload it for others, that's technically breaking the law.
