As a small farmer, I will tell you that, without exception, home farmed food is immeasurably better than the food in grocery stores. Appearance, taste, nutrition are all superior store-bought equivalent. Cost is the only metric where store bought food wins.
I think humans are pretty good at thinking/operating in a 3D space. It's just that digital interface and programming tooling is not there. Obviously because usually there is no direct translation from domain model to physical 3D shapes. But it can well for those that translate: 3D modelling, spatial reasoning, motion tracking, mechanics, etc.
The claim isn't about the age of rock, but that the surface has churned almost everywhere. Israel does contain the oldest measured continuous surface at about 1.8M yo, but nobody claims to have looked everywhere.
I built a little free library a couple years ago. There are definitely people who drop their old crappy books. A good little free librarian treats it like a garden, pruning the weeds and letting the good stuff grow. I also like to seed it occasionally with some of my old favorites that I want someone else to enjoy. It tends to sort of perpetuate itself. People put less junk in there if there is already quality stuff.
toxoplasmosis doesn't actually do that to mice. It makes them less scared, but iirc, not even so much that they don't flee.
it's one of those studies that got blown up into a worldwide news story sensation even though the actual paper didn't say what headlines claimed it did. I don't know if it was ever proven replicable or not, either.
Why not defend it? You provide logistical support to US war of aggression, you become a legitimate target? What is this whitewashing of military involvement? (Both for Amazon and Bahrain)
Are you outside the US? And/or are you using VPN? Those are the two things that come to my mind that can cause overzealous security monitoring to flag someone.
An aggressor state doesn't get to cry foul play. I don't care what Ukraine has to resort to so they can defend their sovereignty. If Russia doesn't like how the game is being played, they can take their ball and go home.
As a scientist and an adult immigrant to the US, I came to appreciate both systems as useful for different objectives.
Celsius/Metric is neatly rooted in science - where it truly shines by removing /most/ of the conversion factors (but does it? we still have, today, speed of light that should be 1, Avogadro and Boltzmann constants are just odd numbers you memorize too) - but doesn't match neither everyday weather and life (0F being "coldest you'll experience in a place humans commonly live" and 100F being "hotest", and close to wet bulb temperature and, through a fluke of an undiagnosed fever of Fahrenheits' wife, nice threshold for fever).
Fahrenheit/Imperial is actually relatively convenient to machining, industry and agriculture (but not engineering or science) - how much of that is actually fractional measurements (1/16th makes a ton more sense than 0.0625), and how much are the "fingertip/decent meal/daily water intake/sustains a person" idea of an inch/lb/gal/acre.. is quite intuitive. Far more so for composite units. 1 PSI is intuitive - you know what force to exert at what area of a piston, same for torque'ing to 80 lbs-ft.
But.. it makes a ton less sense when you separate N from kg (yeah, I am a physicist, I know why, it just makes less sense when building stuff in a dirty corner of an industrial revolution), then somehow apply it to a whole square meter to get a Pascal, and now you need decimal fractions of a million of those.. to represent what you actually see. Quick, do you think you can plug a 2cm diameter garden hose at 0.5MPa with your thumb to spray your dog?
That one does not seem to be an undither project, it appears to be a special way to encode chroma information within a monochrome dithered image. NTSC television also encodes chroma within a grayscale signal, but that's different than black and white only.
I don't care why they're being censored. I care that they're being censored.
You can also make a pretty good case that exactly what you just said, rather than being a demonstration of how free and open the American system is, is a demonstration of how advanced the American system is, wrapping its controls around you with no target to blame or lobby for changes. Is China "more" authoritarian than the American/Western system... or is the American/Western system actually just that much better than China at it?
