Nah, I already did the "do what you love" shtick during the first half of my career working as a researcher living paycheck to paycheck. After I got my first job in the private sector I figured out that, you know what? actually I like being able to pay bills, buy stuff, go out for dinner, and generally lead a comfortable middle class lifestyle.

In any event I'm not exactly nihilistic. I believe better places to work exist, but my visa prevents me from changing employers. When the time comes we'll see if the grass is greener.



This isn’t binary. Either or. You can find people and companies you like to work with and it not be the ‘do what you love’.
