The EU doesn't have the power to do that. The EU is more like a bunch of international treaties between sovereign states than an apex of power hierarchy.


Used to be true but increasingly less since the euro crisis tbh. I've lived in two countries in the EU (native to one of them) and the perception is definitly that a lot of power has shifted, and not for the worst. Honestly small EU countries love the EU for the strong currency and the appearance that they have for making smart legislation like this one, the ban on roaming charges, etc. even the windows without IE thing was a good idea, while poorly implemented. Without the EU small countries would have little to no power over global corp anyway, so this is essentially the EU delivering on its promise.
