I came here to say the opposite. Running on MacOS 15.7 the original Client uses ~200mb and Fastpotify uses ~500mb playing the same song while being substantially slower when navigating music.
EDIT: I forgot about the Spotify Helper processes - taken into account the original spotify needs ~1GB.

I'm from Germany (but with an AC) as well and am always amazed when people tell me that AC makes you sick. Even young people sometimes replicate this "Oh you gotta be careful not to get sick" and would rather be in 30+°C indoors.
How come Germans get sick while the rest of the world seems to be doing fine and is even productive during summer (it feels like Germany grinds to a halt during heatwaves).
Exactly. It is like never turning the heater on once the temperature drops to -10°C (then catching a cold and getting sick).
So once it is too hot, just turn the AC on and you won't get sick or risk a heat stroke either.
We'll come back to this in several months for a winter freeze to see if Europe has basic heating to keep themselves warm (or will they not turn the heaters on for some reason) and in a year, to see if the rest of Europe have learned their lesson to just have basic AC installed for the next heatwave.
In Japan people often claim to be "allergic" to AC too for some reason, and there have been many stories I've heard from foreigners whose Japanese wives refuse to let them run the AC during the night either.
Personally I think their "allergy" is just because most AC units in Japan are disgustingly moldy and never cleaned regularly.
because updating a single app via the app store is faster than updating the whole OS. Having a security vulnerability in a browser could be fixed immediately, but having to ship out a whole new OS leaves it open for a while.

Except that they can and have pushed security updates that are not necessarily OS updates. Granted the process is still through the settings app, but the point still stands. They have a channel for pushing yellow and red alert updates. Anything else can easily wait a couple of months.

Yes as everyone loves to retort, the planet will survive! We might not, the current ecosystem wont, no one and nothing we love or care about or cherish is likely to.

The weights they “etched” into the FPGA card that’s used for the ChatJimmy demo are that of a Llama 3-something 8b model.
The actually impressive and novel thing is that Taalas’ve managed to automate that process (clearly – nobody transforms 8 billion numbers into a physical representation by hand).
So now, they can work on scaling this process up, and with low enough lead times (I’ll be convinced they have inside connections to TSMC if they can actually deliver on the promised mere 3-4 months delay), will be able to offer 30-100b+ parameter models under half a year after they’re released, at thousands of tokens per second while probably drawing less wattage (per token, not sure about overall).
